About Us
First Christian Church has existed since 1907 to receive spiritual insight and strength for serving others and proclaiming the love and forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ. We embrace diversity as we welcome members from all faith backgrounds and walks of life. First Christian is a place to belong. We have a place for you!
Our Mission
The mission of First Christian Church is to reach out, serve, love, and grow spiritually by sharing Christ’s compassion for all people.
Our Denomination
Our congregation is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a Protestant denomination of approximately 800,000 members in the United States and Canada. As with all Christians, an essential belief is that, “Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God,” (Matt. 16:16) God offers saving grace to all. Beliefs and practices of the Disciples include: open communion, freedom from creeds as tests of faith, baptism by immersion, infant dedication, belief in the oneness of the church, and the ministry of the laity – all believers. Christians are free to follow their conscience guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer; and we extend that freedom to others. “We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.”
Worship
Communion is celebrated in weekly worship and all who receive Christ’s invitation are welcome at the table. Currently, we offer one traditional worship service on Sunday. Children ages 4 through 10 attend Children Worship and Wonder (WOW) during the same timeframe. Childcare for children ages three and younger is also offered. Throughout the year, we offer special services including Ash Wednesday, Maundy (Holy) Thursday, and Christmas Eve Candlelight services.
Becoming a Member of First Christian Church
You can become a member of the church through baptism or by transfer of membership from another congregation. We practice baptism by immersion, but consider all forms of Christian baptism valid. If you would like to join the church please come forward during the hymn of commitment or call the church office to schedule an appointment with the pastor.
